All Men Are Superficial

Yes, I realize that not all men are superficial but that would defeat the purpose of an “attention grabber” topic line now, wouldn’t it?

I have been lucky enough to get paid for one or two focus groups on men’s products a few years back.  That is all I’ll say about these products to ensure that no one will come knocking on my door for saying too much. There I was,  sitting in a group full of heterosexual men when I am suddenly shaken by this  epiphany:  gay and straight men are very alike.  It was quite fascinating. Seems like all that was needed is for them to get paid to experience this. Here are some quotes that were floating around the room.

“I don’t like that pomade because it makes my hair look too shiny”

“I love shopping, especially name brand clothes because I’m a name brand addict”

“I prefer getting that brand of T-shirts because it makes my arms look really big”

“I love these boxers because the material feels really soft on my skin”

On a more serious note, I think, as we head towards the future it should be less important how different we are and more important to recognize how much we share in common, whether it’s our dislike of the comeback of over-sized glasses or voting for who should be the next president.
