Fuerza Bruta at Auditorium Theatre, Chicago

At the opening night of Fuerza Bruta I was there. Luckily I knew what I was getting myself into because earlier that day I was at the press conference and got a peek at the show. If you’re not as lucky as I am then I suggest you keep reading. One of the numbers performed at the Fuerza Bruta playing at Auditorium theatre chicago

First, I’d like to recommend that you try your hardest to attend this fantastic show playing at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. It’s so wonderful. I do have to admit, it’s not for everyone and I hope this helps you figure out if you would enjoy it as much as I did.

In my own words, here it is:

Fuerza Bruta translates into Brute Force. Not to worry, it’s a brutal force in a non-material kind of way. During the show an amazing energy floats around and it’s exchanged between everyone. From the performers to the audience to the performers back again. It’s definitely a show where everyone gets to participate.

You walk into the Auditorium Theatre’s waiting area and you’re immediately transformed to a hip club with leather couches and shooters floating around. A bit different than what you came to expect from such a theatre. Once you’re inside you are escorted to be ON the stage. It’s dark, you don’t know much of what’s going on. Lights flicker here and there. Some music starts playing but you’re still unsure of what’s going on. Few minutes pass and the show starts and it’s one of the best shows I’ve attended in a long time! There’s a lot of raw strong emotions going on, it’s extremely active and very beautiful. You already know I don’t like to give many spoliers so this is all you’ll get from me.

Here are tips and things to consider going into the show to maximize your pleasure:

  1. Get there an hour or so before the show. Like I mentioned there’s a full bar ready to serve you and lead you to believe you’re in a club due to the music and the lighting. Also, being a bit “buzzed” will certainly help for later.
  2. There’s only one entrance to inside the theatre so I would recommend to start heading towards the #1 entrance once you see others do the same.
  3. Once you’re on the stage you’ll pretty much have a choice of where to stand, as long as there’s no one there already, of course. Try to get close to the center if you want to get more “interactive” during the show.
  4. You’ll get as much personal space as if you were in a concert so be prepared for that.
  5. The show is interactive, what does that mean? It means you better get ready to move accordingly since the numbers performed are on different spots of the stage (don’t worry the helpful folks working the theatre will guide you through that). It also means that you might get to participate at any given moment. I got to be part of their “Styrofoam” number. I can’t help but chuck at the way I looked after that! You are also free to “touch” when the time comes.
  6. One thing that I was surprised a lot of people didn’t join me in doing (maybe because it was opening night) is…DANCE! There’s a DJ and the music is great so once the performers start dancing it’s an open invitation for all. Don’t be shy.
  7. It goes without saying but, just in case, do use deodorant!

I think I’ve done a good job preparing you for an amazing party! Hope you enjoy it. Please come back here and let me know how it was for you, if you have anything to add to the list or if you have any more questions!

Show is running until July 25th, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 and 10:00 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 and 6:30 pm
