Using Social Media for Social Good!

Last two weeks have been dedicated to using every power I have to spread awareness for social services agencies in my community. I’m sure most of you have heard about it from my facebook, twitter and the CNN iReport. I thought it would be great if all of the links for articles involved would be here, in one place so you don’t have to look for them.

I first found out about event from @MJTam from Chicagonista who then directed me to the Social Mob 4 Good Facebook page. After that I followed the Google group to keep up with any new updates. Two weeks before event @MJTam and I started coming up with possible places and venues for our flash mob in Chicago. Fast forward to May 28 and that’s when I created an event on Facebook to start gethering the masses. Two nights before event private messages were sent to those who RSVPs with detailed instructions.

The night before the event I iron the logo backwards and phone @MJTam for help. She offers to bring me an extra iron-on sticker the next day before the event. I bring my iron along to work . It’s no big deal, I used a colleague’s desk because mine…well let’s just say it wasn’t a suitable space. I write about my excitement on iReport and it felt like being Superman!

If finally happens and I couldn’t be more proud to be the co-organizer and so happy that people took notice and learned more about Chicago House organization. We head towards Hard Rock Hotel thanks to @ChevyMissions’s gracious offer to host a tweetup after the flash mob.  I get home around midnight (couldn’t sleep because I still had an amazing rush) and update the iReport Assignment and thank @CristerDelacruz for being a fantastic photographer for event and @Amcdocumentary for filming the entire thing. So grateful for everyone who came and participated, especially @MJTam who introduced me to the project and wrote about it here. Of course none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for @PRSarahEvans starting it. Thanks Sarah!
