Want to Change Your Twitter Handle? You’re Out of Luck!

Sep 21, 2011 by

Actually, you’re absolutely not!

Few years ago many knew me at @Tokyofan (seems like it belongs to “pete” now). After hours of self-deliberation I decided that I should change my handle to something that represents me more. I’m still Tokyofan and will always be one but it was just a part of my personality. I was very worried at first. I wondered if it’ll turn into a project that I can’t handle. How will people know I have a new name now? Will I lose friends? Will anyone realize what happened? OH NO, NO ONE WILL LIKE ME OR TWEET WITH ME ANYMORE!

Awesome article Super Sami!!! An extra tip is to re-register your old Twitter handle. Once you change your Twitter handle, Twitter releases the old one within minutes so anyone can use it. What I did was change my handle, logout & sign up a “new” account using my old handle using my personal email address. I added my same photo & bio info and posted 1 tweet saying something like: This is my old account, please follow my new account @TwitterNameHere. This way I don’t worry about some controversial person using my old Twitter handle or a case of mistaken identity & people who visit the profile will see that I have a new account. I left email notifications on so anyone that I’ll know of any replies to my old account.
