Hi! Welcome...

Sami Ari Social Sami, or Mr. Tweetup. I host monthly “tweetups” in this fantastic city of ours to bring people together. I love the sense of community achieved by getting so many amazing tweeps under one roof to talk about whatever their heart desires without the restrictions of a 140 characters. I am also a bit addicted to the latest photography exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. Films and I have a long lasting love affair. A learning sponge with an enthusiasm for advertisement and public relations.

305 days, 305 films- The Band’s Visit

thebandsvisit

Film #4- The Band’s Visit.
Do you know Chet Baker? See this film and you’ll understand.
I’m actually worried that this post will not be noticed since it will be published on the notorious #FollowFriday and this film needs to be noticed. The solution? This post will be published today and again tomorrow, in the midst of [...]

Time To Brag

tweetup

2009 is so last year!
I have said it before and saying it again, 2009 kicked my butt! It was full of too much of the not-so-good stuff. You know what I’m talking about!
That was last year. This is 2010! I cannot stop talking about how amazing this year has been and it’s only been 3 [...]

305 days, 305 films- Fish Tank

Fish Tank movie poster

Film #3 Fish Tank
I wasn’t going to write about Fish Tank because it’s still in that unfortunate purgatory state. Not at theaters but not at your friendly neighborhood video rental store either. It’s somewhere in between and therefore you cannot be provided with the instant gratification of seeing it after you read this. There are [...]

305 days, 305 films- He Loves Me He Loves Me Not (À la folie… pas du tout)

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

Film #2 He Loves Me He Loves Me Not.
You see someone across the room that you really like and immediately start fantasizing about the kind of future you’ll have together. Maybe you’ll both leave the party at the same time and he’ll offer you a ride, after that, you’ll plan to go out for dinner [...]

All Men Are Superficial

Yes, I realize that not all men are superficial but that would defeat the purpose of an “attention grabber” topic line now, wouldn’t it?
I have been lucky enough to get paid for one or two focus groups on men’s products a few years back.  That is all I’ll say about these products to ensure that [...]

305 days, 305 films- The New Twenty

newtwenty

Unlike my “Go See It” category this is going to be a much shorter version of my reviews. There are 305 days left of this year. I will attempt to write a mini review of 305 films that you should see. Who said it’s ever too late clearly is unaware of my existence.
Film #1 The [...]

A letter to my photography professor

A Yellow Baloon

JM, how are you? I really miss you, especially that I haven’t spoken to you ina really long time. I hope you are doing well.
You know they say that people come into our lives and impact our future. Some more than others. Some less than others. Because I ordered a drink from a certain Barista [...]

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Sympathy for Lady Vengeance

Let me tell you about why Lady Vengeance is one of the greatest films ever made. I say this over and over again, something magnificent happens when watching East Asian cinema, especially Korean cinema. Even more specifically are the masterpieces of Chan-wook Park. After all, he is responsible for why this cinematic romance started, when I wrote [...]

An Education

An Education

In life, when you try to take shortcuts it will likely not go well. That’s what we learn from watching An Education. This is a story of a master manipulator. A story about being young and wanting to run off with more experience that your young soul can handle. It was painted with lovely music, [...]

SPY(ies)

SPY(ies)

I believe that most of our lives go on unplanned. As much organizing and effort one puts into having a straight line from point A to point B, most of the time, line has lots of curves and waves. If you did have a straight line, then the points you can stop at between A [...]
